A few weeks ago, I was blessed with the opportunity to second shoot for my good friend, Rebecca Read Photography… in one of my favorite states, Colorado. The anticipation leading up to this wedding was nothing short of spectacular, so when the tornado sirens sounded and the skies were filled with cloudy shades of grey, my heart was broken for the sweet, sweet couple – Dan + Kate. Luckily, they didn’t let their dreary wedding day affect their moods and were happy to simple say, “I do,” to the person of their dreams. Here’s a little peak into how beautiful a Denver wedding can still be, regardless of the sun shining or not. Special thanks to Spruce Mountain Ranch for being so awesome, too.
There’s always those moments with couples during the portrait session… where I have to tell them to get a little bit closer. Not because they don’t want to be snuggled up to their fiancé or new husband/wife… but they’re just not quite sure how close is close. But not these two. From the first tearful moments of the First Look to the wee hours of the night on the dance floor… these two newlyweds barely let go of each other. Brooke even mentioned that all the snuggling and cozying up to one another during the portrait session came easy to them and that their family and friends could barely stand to be around them when they first started dating. I’d take as a good sign 🙂
Not only were Brooke + John so in love, making my job easy breezy… but they also found new and exciting ways to make their wedding special and unique to their relationship. As always, I captured all the lovely details below… but I have to mention that my favorite was the handmade quilt from Brooke’s grandmother that they used as a guestbook. I especially loved chatting with grandma about how she made the quilt, and then watching her sign her own creation with love (of course, in her perfect cursive handwriting that only grandma’s can do). To keep it all even more in the family, Brooke had her brother, Michael, officiate the wedding during the outdoor ceremony at The Public Landing Restaurant. And to top it off (literally) they had a Simpson’s cake topper that was hand painted to match their colors… as well as Simpson’s themed cufflinks to show John’s love for the animated show. Brooke + John, thank you so much for allowing me to tell your love story through my lens. It was a beautiful day in the park, and I’m so glad I could be there to celebrate with your friends and family.

After having to reschedule because of this unpredictable Chicago weather… I finally got to shoot Jackie + Matt’s (I mean Mark, Matt, Mark, Matt, Matt… ahhh #photogproblems – when two of your couples almost have the same names, it takes about half the session for my brain to adjust) Naperville engagement photos. The day couldn’t have been more perfect… the sun was shining, it wasn’t too hot and not the tiniest bit cold – just one of those days that reminds you why we live in Chicago and put up with the harsh winters and so-far chilly start to the summer. Jackie + Matt (I think I got it now!) brought along their lively dog, Moose to hop in some of the pictures as we captured their cuteness all over the Naperville Riverwalk. After shooting along the iconic Naperville bridges/river, and hitting up some shady tree areas, we took the shoot over to Quigley’s for a few beers and more casual shots. It was such a perfect afternoon and I have been dying to share these photos with everyone. Jackie + Matt, thank you for being so awesomely beautiful and fun to work with. I loved hearing your story, which may or may have not included a wife beater tank top and a 40 oz. (we’ll leave that one up to the imagination), and getting to know you guys a bit better. I can’t wait for the wedding in December and I’m so glad we had this chance to work together and hang beforehand!
I wanted to share a quick peek into my brother and sister-in-law’s adorable baby shower for their soon to be daughter, Adrianna (and my soon to be first niece!). It was such a great day full of love from both sides of the family and friends. Ditka’s did an amazing job hosting the shower… the service was excellent, and the brunch was nothing short of delicious. Toni, Traci (Toni’s sister-in-law), and Jake put the cutest little details together and threw an all-around fantastic DIY baby shower full of potted flower favors (which of course I’ve already killed mine and my roommate is in the process of nursing it back to life), chalkboard pottery/flowers and pink sparkle centerpieces, and homemade tulle puff balls hanging above the gift table. Next step… meeting Adrianna… can’t wait, baby girl!!
